You have do wonder sometimes just how brain dead the Republican party is that has controlled the Florida legislature for the past decade. I love living in South Florida, but it scares the bejeebus out of me whenever I have to venture north in this state into Republican controlled areas. And unfortunately this really means Tallahassee, where our legislature sits and doles out governance for this state.
Their latest foray into the absurd? An attempt to lure film and entertainment jobs to the state with a $75 million incentive package being considered. The kicker? Films with "nontraditional family values" would be ineligible for the incentives.
Our course, being Republican legislation, they can't even define or try to define, what nontraditional family values really means. Of course we know what they really mean...gay and lesbian family values.
I love the "think of it like Mayberry" comment from one of the bill's sponsors. Yeah, those are the movies that are selling these days.
If I were the powers that be in film making, I would give Florida exactly what they want if this legislation passes. But I would boycott this state and actually REDUCE the amount of filming that is done in Florida.
I would serve them right.
